Portrait of a Teacher

Our teachers will be the heart and soul of the educational and discipleship process at HCA. The following list describes the key characteristics that we expect to see in our educators. These characteristics will be vital to the process of shaping and molding our students into the young men and women described in our portrait of a graduate.

As lifelong learners, our educators are:

  • Able to articulate their subject matter through the lens of their faith to students, parents, and peers;
  • Continuously growing in the knowledge of their subjects, Jesus, and Scripture;
  • Mentoring students as they walk with them through spiritual, educational, and intellectual development;
  • Equipped to teach and interact with students from a Biblical worldview and with academic excellence;
  • Consistently challenging students to think critically and process life biblically as they do so themselves.

As lovers of Jesus Christ, our educators are:

  • Displaying the love of Jesus Christ through teaching, mentorship, and discipleship;
  • Practicing biblically-based structure and discipline within the classroom;
  • Challenging students to consider new ways in which they can apply their faith;
  • Incorporating the love of Jesus and His redemption story into every aspect of learning and vocation and challenging students to see their education as a stewardship from God;
  • Encouraging students to take their faith to the next level – not just cultivating head knowledge but pursuing true heart change which will help them to bear Christlike fruit in their lives.

As servant leaders, our educators are:

  • Leading within the classroom, exemplifying humility, discernment, and grace;
  • Communicating with kindness and respect showing that they value others above themselves;
  • Welcoming students into their own faith journey;
  • Taking every opportunity to counsel students on who God has called them to be;
  • Walking with integrity – above reproach;
  • Servants of Christ sent to serve in partnership with the family and church to build up your child in Jesus Christ and encourage them toward educational growth.
